Christmas shopping is much less of a chore if you are more organized. Going to the trouble of making a list and checking it twice before you hit the stores can save you a lot of headaches, confusion and panic at the last minute.

Making a list for your Christmas shopping should not be that difficult. You can do it on paper or on your computer and then print the Christmas shopping list out later for reference. The important thing to remember is to take the list with you and try to stick to it if you can! More Christmas shopping plans were ruined than not by people who started straying from their list and then ended up buying much more expensive gifts then they intended to by giving into an impulse.

You should have the list organized so that it compartmentalizes all of the different types of people that you might give a Christmas gift in your life. Suggested categories are “gifts for immediate family”, “gifts for relatives at a distance”, “gifts for friends’, “gifts for coworkers”, “gifts for pets”, “gifts for clients” and so on. Of course once you have done this your next step is to immediately figure out a timeline for whom you need to shop for first. For instance gifts that you have to send a great distance might have to be shopped for earlier then the gifts that will be received by people you see every day. You might also have to shop for gifts for coworkers earlier than family members or friends as you are likely to be invited to an office party or get off work for the holidays before the actual official gift giving day of the 25th.

Yet another suggestion is to create a budget for your Christmas shopping and then try to stick to it. Not having a list is what makes people go over budget. Another thing that makes people spend to much money on Christmas shopping is leaving it all to the last minute. If you leave everything until the last day you end up paying a lot more for every aspect of the Christmas shopping process including how much you have to pay for gas, parking and a more expensive gift because they are out of the one you wanted to buy in the first place.

One fantastic way to get all of your Christmas shopping done at once is to visit the Oxfam and World Vision sites and buy something for people less fortunate in the name of the person you want to give top. This is especially good for older people such as coworkers and relatives who already feel they have what they need in life, is to buy a goat, chicken, cow, school supplies or even a full well with water at a charity such as World Vision. Not only are these gifts reasonably priced but they require little organization on your part and do you and your friends and relatives a lot of good spiritually.
