Finding the Perfect Christmas Tree: Fake versus Real

Chucky Anderson

When it comes to Christmas trees, most people go to the local Christmas tree dealer. Here, you can choose which tree best suits you and your needs. The dealer will wrap it up for you and even will strap it to your automobile so that you can safely transport it home. This is, of course, if you want to go with a real tree this Christmas. There are some drawbacks to a real tree. With a real Christmas tree, you have to worry about sap, keeping it in water, falling needles and much more. For some, this is too much of a hassle. For these people, they would rather have a fake Christmas tree. Fake trees require very little maintenance and can be used again and again. Does this make them better, however? Some say no.

Real Trees

A real Christmas tree can be a real hassle. For one, they constantly leak sap, which can get on clothes, carpet and even furniture. Not to mention the trees often shed a great deal of needles all over the place. These needles are sharp when stepped on, make cleaning your house extra tedious and the trees themselves begin to look shabby after a while of constant shedding. The biggest drawback for some, however, is the need to keep real trees in water to keep them healthy. The problem is that most people also decorate their trees with lights and other Christmas tree decorations that require electricity. Electricity and water don’t mix so having a real tree in water can make for a very dangerous situation.

A real tree does look nice, however, and it gives off that special pine aroma, which is usually associated with Christmas time. For some, this isn’t worth all the headaches. They would rather go out and buy a plastic Christmas tree that can potentially last for years and years.

Fake Trees

A fake tree requires no water, doesn’t shed, doesn’t leak sap and, best of all, can be broken down and used year after year. The money spent on the tree is a one time investment that, unless something happens to your tree, doesn’t have to be repeated. Fake Christmas trees come in all shapes and styles, it all depends on how much money you want to spend. In fact, some fake trees look better than some real trees.

There are those that would rather have a real tree, no matter how much maintenance is required. They would argue that a fake Christmas tree takes away from the Christmas spirit. They want to go out and get a real Christmas tree every year and they want to smell that pine smell until Christmas is over. Then, they’ll throw it away until next year. They don’t mind spending that money year after year. For them, they would rather have a real Christmas tree than a fake one any day, even if it means doing a little extra pickup, such as needles and running sap, around the house.
