Children Love Christmas Because Of the Christmas Holiday Gift
Chucky Anderson
Christmas time is the time of celebration for children because they look forward to receive their Christmas holiday gift. This season holds magic not only for children but for adults as well, because of all the spirit many people produce during this time of year. You find people doing acts of kindness for others for no reason other than wanting to bring a little happiness to another human being. Christmas is the time when people forgive other’s faults easier, when they are faster to help and slower to punish. Christmas activates the goodness in everyone’s heart. The tradition of giving a gift on Christmas serves this very purpose. The gifts are meant to make someone happy and feel loved and cared for – whether the gift is for parents, or for a sister or a long lost friend. This gift may not have a great value in monetary terms; however it can bind relationships forever on the basis of the gesture that it symbolizes. Usually, when you give a gift to a person, you say without words that you value that person. At Christmas however, people tend to give gifts that symbolize a relationship except for when it comes to the children. A Christmas holiday gift to a child, means getting something they’ve been asking for all year. It could be a new toy, a new pair of jeans, and even a cell phone in this day and time. So, how do we get our children to see the value in a Christmas holiday gift when it may not be something they really want. The bottom line is spirit, not only the spirit of Christmas, but most importantly the spirit of giving. Teaching children that its much nicer to give than to receive will help them in finding true value in the Christmas holiday gift they receive from a loved one, even if its something they don’t necessarily find exciting. In the end, if a child can keep in mind the heartfelt reason someone has presented them with a Christmas holiday gift, they are more inclined to appreciate the meaning behind the gift, not just the monetary value. Once this valuable lesson is learned, it will help them to enjoy all of the other fantastic parts of Christmas such as the holiday dinner, and most importantly, the fact that all of their loved ones can spend a wonderful time together in one place.
